Are You Willing to Homeschool Your Husband During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond?

Being stuck at home together has its challenges and opportunities for learning too.

It’s hard to believe how drastically our lives have changed over the last couple months. The COVID-19 pandemic has turned our lives upside down, shaken us to the core, and humbled us with the stark reality of being stuck at home together. The stress of couple-isolation can be challenging, especially since before the pandemic, we were so accustomed to our busy lifestyles and personal freedoms. Now we are adjusting to a new reality that is fraught with stress and uncertainty. It’s the perfect recipe for emotional breakdowns, conflicts, arguments, and potentially failed relationships. However, if we adhere to the golden rule that love conquers fear, we will get through this together and we will become stronger together.

Look on the bright side.

If you’re not feeling very loving these days, that’s understandable – and you are definitely not alone. The doom and gloom of the pandemic can suppress our happiness and dampen our spirits, unless we follow some wise old advice: “Always look on the bright side of life.” (If you’re familiar with the origins of this lyrical advice, you’re probably humming along to the Monty Python’s Life of Brian melody.) Altering your views and perceptions to see the brighter side of life can help lift your spirits, harmonize your interactions with others, and inspire your thoughts, words, messages, and posts. Others will appreciate and hopefully mimic your optimistic outlook, attitude of gratitude, expressions of hope and faith, and sense of humour. The latter is very important during these trying times, especially when it comes to dealing with captive husbands.

Don’t give up on us.

On behalf of other captive husbands, I acknowledge that our childish behaviour can test your patience and perhaps challenge you when it comes to seeing the bright side of us. But please don’t give up on us, because although we can be stubborn, quirky, and funny in a weird sort of way, we can also be moulded, man-ipulated, and educated to appease and please you. And, considering everything women accomplish, you deserve to be appeased, pleased, and treated with lots of respect. Men need to recognize and appreciate the inherent survival characteristics of women in the face of adversity. Women are natural leaders and mentors due to their inner strength, compassionate nature, intelligence, intuition, multitasking skills, and their ability to react and adapt to changing circumstances. Men have positive attributes too, but we also have a lot to learn in order to grow and become better men.  The proverb states, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” In this case, “When the husband is trapped at home, his wife will appear and the homeschooling will begin.”

If you are willing to educate your husband, then it’s important to have a curriculum that works for men. In my next blog, I will share 7 practical tips to homeschool your husband and safeguard your relationship.
